Questions and answers

How can care be planned when several teeth need restoration?

Ask for priorities and clear stages identifying the teeth involved. This makes timing, estimates and changes after assessment easier to discuss. In Lypovets, establish what the next appointment addresses and what needs subsequent visits or input from another dental clinician.

What is an apicoectomy in an endodontic treatment plan?

It is a surgical approach to the root-end area that may be considered for selected problems following canal treatment. It is not removal of the whole tooth. Ask why this access is proposed, which alternatives were considered and how the outcome will be reviewed.

Why avoid immediately washing toothpaste away with plenty of water?

After brushing with fluoride toothpaste, excess is generally spat out: immediate rinsing reduces fluoride left on the teeth. If mouthwash forms part of your routine, clarify a separate time for it. A completely rinsed-clean feeling does not indicate better preventive benefit.

How can I clarify which tooth is planned for extraction?

Before starting, ask the clinician to identify the tooth and relate the decision to assessment findings. Resolve any mismatch with your understanding beforehand. Your approximate sense of where pain comes from does not replace clinical identification, and uncertainties should be raised before treatment.

How does a veneer differ from a crown?

A veneer generally covers the front surface, whereas a crown covers the tooth differently and addresses other restorative needs. Similar appearance goals do not establish the same approach. Ask about preparation, remaining natural tissue and the particular problems the proposed restoration should address.

Why can affected areas darken after silver diamine fluoride application?

Dark staining of decayed tissue is a known consequence and should be discussed beforehand. Ask about the expected appearance, purpose and alternatives. This material is not the same solution for every child's tooth, and its use does not remove the need for follow-up.
