Check that both plans address the same tooth, current condition and scope of care. Ask about differences in preparation, materials, completion and review. Price alone does not establish suitability. Meaningful comparison requires clear reasons and the full work involved, rather than just the name of a filling material.
Ask what has been completed, how the tooth is restored and what follow-up is needed. How you feel matters but does not replace professional assessment. Clarify changes to report and review arrangements. This provides practical guidance for continuing care instead of judging the whole result from one sensation.
Ask for separate explanations for the appliance, remaining teeth and soft tissues. Products and methods may differ, so clarify compatibility with your denture. Demonstrate your usual sequence and ask about unclear steps. A removable appliance does not remove the need to care for other parts of your mouth or arrange individual reviews.
Ask the dentist to identify the tooth and explain its notation in the plan. Raise any mismatch with your symptoms or an unclear record before the procedure. Agreement needs an understandable explanation of the reason and alternatives. Do not silently assume a phrase such as “the back tooth” means the same to everyone.
With your agreement, involve the helper in practical discussions or request clear written guidance. Clarify insertion and removal where the design requires them, and surface cleaning. Selection should consider use at home. The patient’s own questions and decisions must remain central to the consultation throughout.
Ask to see the tooth and whether the proposal protects its grooves or restores an existing defect. The purposes differ. Clarify reasons, care and review. Agree treatment after the tooth’s condition is explained; similar-looking material does not mean identical treatment or replace daily oral hygiene.
