A follow-up physician appointment: reviewing changes after tests
No independent medical review is claimed. UKRMED editorial policy
A follow-up visit is not just for reviewing new reports. It is an opportunity to compare results with how you have felt since the previous appointment. Prepare a brief summary of what changed, what stayed the same and any questions that arose while following the agreed plan.
Keep the results in one file or folder and check that dates and test names are included. If some results are not ready, say so at the start. Do not try to explain every value yourself: laboratory findings are considered alongside other health information.
Explain which recommendations you could follow and where you had difficulties. If you noticed unwanted changes after a prescription, describe when and under what circumstances they appeared. Specific observations are more useful than saying nothing helped, because different parts of a plan may have different aims.
Finish by agreeing on the next steps and asking whether another review is needed. Save the updated recommendations so old and new agreements do not become mixed up. Clarify who will review any result that arrives later and how you will receive an explanation.
