Review appointments during orthodontic treatment
No independent medical review is claimed. UKRMED editorial policy
Orthodontic treatment does not end when an appliance is fitted. Later visits are needed for monitoring and the steps set out in the plan. Agree on a schedule with the team and ask what to do if you cannot attend. Simply delaying a review is not an equivalent replacement for a consultation.
Between appointments, note questions about using the appliance and everyday care. Tell the orthodontist about damage, unusual sensations or difficulty following advice. Do not try to change the settings yourself: describe the problem first and obtain agreed instructions.
At each visit, clarify the current aims of treatment and whether the next steps have changed. Ask which care products suit your appliance and how to combine orthodontic reviews with routine dental examinations. These appointments serve different purposes.
Before active treatment finishes, discuss the retainer, how to use it and future checks. Ask about care and whom to contact if it is damaged or lost. Maintaining the result needs a separate plan, so the last day with braces should not be the last discussion of what comes next.
