A new removable denture: discussing adjustment and follow-up

After receiving a removable denture, you may need time to get used to its presence and use. However, you should not silently tolerate a problem that interferes with eating or speaking. When the denture is fitted, ask what sensations are expected and how adjustments are arranged.

Ask to be shown how to insert and remove it, and practise with the professional. Note the cleaning method, storage rules and advice for overnight use. Care can differ between appliances, so a general online instruction should not replace your team's explanation.

If the denture rubs, moves, clicks or fits differently, describe this when contacting the dentist. Explain when it happens and exactly what is difficult. Do not file down or repair the denture yourself: this can make assessment and professional correction harder.

Keep a contact for another appointment and the date of your review. Follow-up also matters for people with no natural teeth, because the oral tissues and the appliance itself still need attention. The aim of adjustment is comfortable use over time, not learning to ignore discomfort or pain.
