Ask for assessment of the margin, surrounding tissue and restoration integrity rather than a conclusion based on shade alone. Explain whether the change is new and whether there are symptoms. Monitoring, adjustment or replacement should reflect the cause, not just colour. A photograph can show a change but cannot replace examination.
Explain when sensations returned, whether chewing affects them and whether the filling or crown has changed. Do not assume previous treatment was necessarily incorrect; new circumstances can also affect the tooth. Following assessment, ask about the source of the complaint and care options before agreeing to another procedure simply because the tooth was treated before.
Ask which areas and tasks each item addresses and whether it suits your restorations and abilities. Request recommendations based on examination and a demonstration of use. Owning a set does not itself establish good care. Mention products you already have so purchases are not duplicated without a clear reason relevant to your needs.
Ask which features of the tooth and surrounding tissues affect the plan. What you see in a mirror does not describe the whole root or access. Clarify the approach, preparation and aftercare. A small crown or large fragment is not a reliable measure of difficulty; your case needs assessment and a clear explanation.
Explain the reason and the changes you hope for in appearance or function. The dentist needs to assess whether it is a separate restoration and how it relates to neighbouring teeth. Distinguish necessary care from additional cosmetic preferences. Replacing one component does not automatically mean replacing all, but a local solution needs examination.
Ask the dentist to identify permanent and baby teeth and explain which recommendation applies to each. Appearance during this transition can confuse parents. Do not assume a plan for one tooth applies to its neighbour. Clarify priorities and follow-up so observations at home and future visits match the particular treatment plan.
