The appearance of an old restoration does not describe the entire tooth. A dentist assesses the remaining tissues and existing filling before explaining options. Ask which findings support replacement and how much restoration is proposed for your particular tooth.
A temporary closure may be used between appointments during treatment. Its presence alone does not establish completion. Confirm the stage performed, the next appointment and the permanent restoration plan, and obtain instructions for the interval before your next visit.
Show your usual sequence and explain which areas are difficult to see. Ask the clinician to review outer, inner and chewing surfaces. A practical demonstration can reveal a missed step; brushing duration alone does not show which areas you actually clean.
Bring the referral and any available images. Ask the dentist to explain the notation and confirm the area during examination. Do not identify the intended tooth solely from memory of an earlier conversation; clarify the record before discussing consent for that procedure.
Ask to see the replacement areas on a diagram or model and discuss how the appliance is used. A partial denture replaces some teeth, but the individual plan requires assessment. Confirm a shared understanding of the proposed extent before agreeing to fabrication.
Prepare details of previous treatment, known allergies and the child’s current medicines. Check the facility’s accompaniment rules and required documents. The accompanying adult should know the reason for attendance and how to contact the responsible person, so relevant information travels beyond a conversation at home.
